The Real Reason Patriots Dumped Tom Brady Revealed

The New England Patriots lost a valuable player last season. Well, it looks like the Patriots dumped Tom Brady for a reason. Team owner Robert Kraft has the details.

The Patriots owner shed light on their decision not to try too hard to sign TB12 last spring. Earlier this week, Kraft said his team could have added more money to Brady’s deal in order to keep him around. I mean, Brady was part of the team for two decades. Kraft said there was no guarantee keeping the quarterback would have led to bigger success. He cited the Patriots’ Wild Card loss to the Tennessee Titans in January 2020.

“We could have, contract-wise, kept him (Tom Brady) in our camp, but it’s just not the right thing,” Kraft said, via Michael Giardi of NFL Network. “Naturally, we want to win, but who knows what would have happened if he stayed here. Look what happened at the end of his last season here.”

Re-signing the greatest of all time would have eaten into present and future cap space.

New England might not have had the power to add the impact players Belichick signed in free agency. They might have ended with an aging quarterback and lack of offensive weapons.

Getting a better deal is no guarantee. He might have left the team anyway. The veteran quarterback developed a greater tension with coach Belichick due to Belichick’s plans to add defensive talent over offensive playmakers.

Brady was probably ready to start off a new chapter with another team. He had a chance to prove himself elsewhere. What happened next? Brady won the Super Bowl with Rob Gronkowski and the rest of the players on Tampa’s roster. Brady is incredibly competitive and he really likes winning. He got a chance to win another ring. The Patriots won’t let him get away with it in 2021. Belichick formed an incredibly strong roster. He signed Hunter Henry, Jonnu Smith and other valuable players. New England is ready to win games and hopefully, lead the Patriots to the playoffs.
