Jakobi Meyers Raves About Impact Julian Edelman Had On Him

Jakobi Meyers has nothing but words of praise for former New England Patriots veteran Julian Edelman. Well, that’s not all. Edelman was Meyers’ role model. When Meyers was breaking into the league, he had an excellent role model to follow.

Meyers is getting ready to enter his third season in the league. Edelman called it a career. He retired after 12 long seasons with the Patriots. It was a wild run for the wideout and he enjoyed every bit of it. Edelman’s retirement changed the entire situation in New England. He left a big spot for other players.

There’s a new look in the wide receiver room in New England. Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor are part of the crew, too.

Jakobi Meyers learned a lot from Julian Edelman

Edelman may be out, but he sure made an impact on Meyers. The 24-year-old will remember everything Edelman taught him. He got some cool lessons from the wideout.

“You could watch Jules and he could never say a word but you will learn a books worth of information,” Meyers told reporters Tuesday during OTAs media availability, via The Boston Globe. “So, having him around, it definitely helped my game tremendously and I?m just excited that I had the opportunity to be with him in the locker room these two years.”

With great respect to institutional knowledge, Meyers is among the elder statesmen of Bill Belichick’s wideouts. Meyers, N’Keal Harry, and Gunner Olszewski joined the team in 2019. They are the longest-tenured Patriots receivers, excluding Matthew Slater. The Patriots listed him as a receiver, but he only plays on special teams.

The Patriots look really different this season and coach Belichick is taking things to a different level. He signed a talented group in the offseason and brought some young power through the 2021 NFL Draft. The team will follow different rules in 2021 and everyone is really excited about the opportunity. Let’s see how will the Patriots handle the pressure without Edelman. He has veteran experience and the Patriots got the best of that. Of course, players will use the opportunity to compete and take the top spot.
