Mac Jones’ Dad Reacts To Son Landing With Patriots In 2021 NFL Draft

Mac Jones is joining a really talented group of players and he will be part of the New England Patriots in 2021. Head coach Bill Belichick played really smart in the 2021 NFL Draft and he got a bunch of talented names. Jones is one of the best prospects in this year’s class. NFL analysts said he is much better than most quarterback options this year.

Well, guess what… Jones and his family had their eyes on the Patriots all this time.

The Alabama product secretly wanted to join the Patriots. New England was on his list this whole time. He talked about this right after the team selected him. The rookie secretly wanted to sign with the Patriots. His father, Gordon Jones, shares the same opinion.

Gordon felt the same way. He pointed to the connection that exists between head coach Belichick and Alabama head coach Nick Saban.

“There were other teams that could have picked him, but we said, ‘Nah, let’s just wait for the Patriots,’ “Gordon Jones told Gene Frenette of The Florida Times-Union. “We just thought it was a better environment for Mac because of the relationship with Coach Belichick and Saban.”

New England has selected many Alabama players over the years. They even dipped back into the Crimson Tide pipeline in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft to get defensive tackle Christian Barmore. According to many, Barmore is a potential steal despite some concerns that pushed him down the board.

Jones got the most attention of them all. He is the first quarterback selected by the Patriots in the first round since Coach B became the Patriots’ head coach in 2000. Belichick said Cam Newton was his quarterback, but Jones seems like a long-term answer at this spot.
