Patriots Sign Another Draft Pick, Ink Cameron McGrone To Deal

The New England Patriots are working really hard to strengthen the roster. Head coach Bill Belichick selected a group of talented players in the 2021 NFL Draft. According to recent reports, the Patriots decided to sign another draft pick. Yes, the team continues to take care of business with the 2021 draft class.

The Patriots already signed William Sherman and Tre Nixon to the roster. They are now adding another player to the list. Rookie linebacker Cameron McGrone got his deal with the team. The Patriots selected the Michigan prospect in the fifth-round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was the 177th overall pick for the team.

We don’t have any information on the terms of the contract McGrone signed. We can’t really tell whether he will play in 2021. McGrone is recovering from a torn ACL. It’s interesting to note that the Patriots knew about this before selecting him. Belichick liked him a lot so the young player earned his spot on the list.

NFL experts would agree that McGrone could be a good “redshirt” guy for the Patriots. He showed tantalizing ability in the run game. Maybe this is the reason Belichick had to get him. Let’s be honest. McGrone is smaller than most Patriots linebackers. Size was never an issue for him.

McGrone suffered through an injury-plagued junior campaign that was already shortened by the pandemic. He tore his ACL in November. McGrone decided to enter the draft and Belichick snatched him.

This was a risky move for the Patriots. Guess what… It will probably pay off in 2022. The 22-year-old is a good fit for the Patriots’ defense. New England had a kicker in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The player didn’t even make off the practice unit before they cut him. McGrone is a better draft pick than the guy New England got in the fifth round in 2020.

McGrone measured in at 6-foot-1, 1234 pounds at his pro day in March. He didn’t work out and put up 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.
