Patriots Sign Speedy UCF Star WR, Potential Julian Edelman Replacement

The New England Patriots won’t have Julian Edelman on the roster in 2021, and head coach Bill Belichick has found the right replacement. Sort of.

The Patriots signed a lot of players since the 2021 NFL Draft. The y signed an undrafted free agent and two of the picks they selected in April. UCF star wide receiver Tre Nixon is one of them.

New England inked Nixon after drafting him in the seventh round of the NFL Draft. Belichick selected Colorado offensive tackle William Sherman in the sixth round of the draft.

The team has several players left from their rookie group to sign to contracts.

NFL experts don’t have high expectations from the player they got in the seventh round. Nixon was the final pick in the draft. Ernie Adams had the honor to select him as a final pick in the draft.

Patriots players to work with Julian Edelman replacement

CLNS’ Evan Lazar is an optimist about Nixon’s chance to make the active roster.

“Who knows if #Patriots seventh-round pick Tre Nixon will even push for a roster spot, but he can definitely run vertical routes and beat press coverage. Nice “dead leg” release here to move the CB outside to open up the inside, then accelerates past to create a big play.”

Patriots salary cap expert Miguel Bezan said Nixon has a chance to earn a lot of money if he makes the active roster in Week 1.

“Tre Nixon‘s cap numbers should be 2021 – $24,669 (now) – $684,669 if he makes 53-man roster 2022- $849,669 2023 – $964,669 2024 – $1,079,669 APY=$894,669 The only guaranteed amount is his $98,676 signing bonus.”

Patriots Opinions says Sherman will beat Yodny Cajuste for the roster spot.

Bezan broke down a nice salary structure for Sherman.

“William Sherman‘s cap numbers will be 2021 – $44,107 (now) – $704,107 if he makes 53-man roster 2022- $869,107 2023 – $984,107 2024 – $1,099,107 APY=$914,107 The only guaranteed amount is his $176,428 signing bonus.”
