Patriots Signing Veteran Free-Agent Offensive Linemen Before OTAs Begin

The New England Patriots are making a bunch of moves ahead of organized team activities. Head coach Bill Belichick made several moves and now the Patriots are signing offensive linemen. These signings happened at the right time. It’s time to pack the roster!

New England signed veteran guard Alex Redmond as confirmed by his agent Michael Hoffman. Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that the Patriots also re-signed guard/center James Ferentz.

Redmond joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2016. The 26-year-old spent his five-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals and started 24 of his 32 career games. Redmond started a career-high 15 games in 2018 and seven in 2020. He played at right guard in the last three seasons. In 2017, he played left guard, right guard and left tackle.

Patriots are signing offensive linemen for the win

Ferentz was part of the Patriots in the last four seasons. He joined the NFL in 2015 as a member of the Denver Broncos. He went undrafted out of Iowa in 2014.The 31-year-old is the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz. His dad was assistant under Patriots head coach Bill Belichick in the 1990s during his time with the Cleveland Browns.

Redmond and Ferentz join a deep offensive line. They will work with left tackle Isaiah Wynn, left guard Michael Onwenu, center David Andrews, right guard Shaq Mason, right tackle Trent Brown and reserves Ted Karras, Justin Herron, Yodny Cajuste, Korey Cunningham, Marcus Martin, William Sherman, and Najee Toran.

Karras will probably be the Patriots’ top interior offensive line backup. Onwenu may go to tackle if a starter sustains an injury. Head coach Bill Belichick is making several changes to the current roster. Some of his veterans left the team this offseason, leaving enough room for new players.

Belichick has already signed some of the new players he brought through the 2021 NFL Draft. Cam Newton will probably go under center. Well, Mac Jones is here to challenge his position.

The Patriots will look a lot different this season and we can’t wait to see what happens in training camp. Belichick is not done with his changes.
