Cam Newton Reportedly Left Patriots OTA With Right Hand Injury

The New England Patriots are dealing with a serious problem at the moment. Veteran quarterback Cam Newton left Friday’s practice due to a hand injury. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones will use the opportunity to show his skills. Newton won’t stay with the Patriots forever. Many believe that Jones is the quarterback of the future.

Veteran quarterback Brian Hoyer signed a one-year deal with the Patriots. Third-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham is under contract with the team. Newton led the Patriots in 2020 and he will lead the team again in 2021. Unfortunately, he suffered a minor setback during practice.

“Cam Newton didn’t finish practice, as an athletic trainer and doctor were looking at his right hand about halfway through the workout,” wrote Patriots reporters Mike Reiss, via Twitter. “Patriots QBs were working on a drill in which a soft pad is tossed at them and the pad appeared to make contact with his hand on follow-through.”

Cam Newton suffers hand injury, giving Jarrett Stidham a chance to shine

Newton’s injury opened the door for Jones to lead the 7-on-7 drill. Stidham took first-team reps during 11-on-11.

According to this, Stidham made the most of the practice and Jones had some struggles.

“Today seemed like a practice where he was essentially saying, ‘Hey, don’t forget about me.’ Meanwhile, Mac Jones threw a would-be INT in 11-on-11 drills that Kyle Van Noy dropped, and Van Noy promptly hit the ground for push-ups.”

Head coach Bill Belichick will witness a quarterback battle and he will use the best player for the position. He has four talented quarterbacks on the roster and they will do their best to finish the run with a win.

Hoyer is a reliable veteran backup and Stidham will try his chances.

Newton has tons of experience and he can lead a team. He spent an entire year with the Patriots and now he knows more about the system. Belichick will make these players compete and this will be the competition you don’t want to miss. Who will win this competition?
