Cam Newton Shares His Reaction To Mac Jones Pick

Veteran quarterback Cam Newton had a respected reaction to the selection of first-rounder Mac Jones. The New England Patriots drafted Jones with the No.15th overall, and he will probably be the quarterback of the future.

Head coach Bill Belichick signed Newton to a one-year deal just because he trusted his talent. Newton did an amazing job with the Patriots despite his struggles. We sort of understand that because he didn’t have much time to prepare for the Patriots’ offense. The team signed him in July of 2020 and Newton had to compete with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer in training camp. He got the job and Belichick trusts his potential. That’s why he got another deal.

Fast forward to the NFL draft. Belichick used his first-round pick on Jones. Selecting a quarterback in the first round is not a common thing for Belichick. The Patriots head coach offered Newton a deal before the draft and many thought that he’d wait one more year to select a signal-caller. What about Jones? The Patriots couldn’t resist, and he became part of the team.

Cam Newton has the right reaction for Mac Jones

The former Alabama star will eventually be the Patriots franchise quarterback. Well, he will have to beat out the 2015 NFL MVP.

Things got really hot in New England. We will witness another quarterback battle in the summer. Jones is a first-round pick and he will have to try really hard to earn a spot. Newton is motivated to play his best football.

Newton has yet to discuss Jones’ selection. According to him, Jones was “the right pick,” adding that he was the “best player available.”

“Newton responded that it ‘didn’t make me feel’ anything because he thought Jones was the ‘right pick’ and the ‘best player available’ for the team at the time. Newton added that he supported the decision ‘110 percent’ because of the need to do what’s right for the ‘long haul,’” Alper wrote, via Pro Football Talk.

Newton doesn’t have any hard feelings about the newly-signed quarterback. He will retire in a few years and Jones has just entered the big world.
