Unnamed Patriots Player Suggests Mac Jones Has Edge Over Cam Newton

The New England Patriots selected a bunch of great players in the 2021 NFL Draft, including a rookie quarterback. Mac Jones has a really good chance to beat Cam Newton in the quarterback battle this summer. Head coach Bill Belichick trusts Newton and offered him a one-year deal. However, Jones is definitely in the competition if the rookie shows better performance in training camp.

The Patriots deal with a really interesting quarterback situation at the moment. This is probably the hottest topic as players enter training camp and everyone is focused on the quarterback battle in New England.

Newton signed with Patriots for another season. He agreed to a one-year deal packed with incentives. His first season with the Patriots didn’t go well. On the other hand, Jones is an excellent prospect and the Patriots used their 15th round pick to get him. Belichick selected him in the first-round of the draft. While Newton has more experience and represents a better commodity, the ceiling for the rookie quarterback is much higher. He was amazing in minicamp and OTAs and things look really good for him.

Mac Jones challenges Cam Newton

An unnamed Patriots player made some comments to NFL Media’s Mike Giardi. Well, we have people asking questions.

“It’s not just the physical that stands out,” Giardi wrote. “The Pats have thrown everything at Jones, and his grasp of a playbook that’s over 20 years in the making has been impressive. As one offensive teammate told me, ‘Mac sees the game the way (offensive coordinator) Josh (McDaniels) sees it.’”

This is a rather interesting remark. McDaniels got really comfortable with his offense. Tom Brady was standing in the center. Well, TB12 is no longer with the team and the Patriots have to find a better option at the moment. When Newton joined the Patriots, some said he was an awkward fit.

If Jones learns the playbook and steps on the same wavelength as McDaniels, things might take a different turn for the 2015 NFL MVP.
