ESPN Highlights ‘Surprise Standout’ From Patriots Minicamp

The New England Patriots missed the playoffs in 2020. Head coach Bill Belichick reshaped the roster in the offseason. He signed players in free agency and brought some fresh power through the 2021 NFL Draft. Patriots players have their minicamp practice, and some of them did better than the others.

Spring practices yield optimism surrounding some Patriots players.

Josh Uche was impressive in his rookie campaign in 2020. The second-round selection saw limited action and coaches followed his moves during practice. Uche was amazing in pass-rushing situations, and Patriots coaches have great plans for him in the 2021 season.

According to ESPN, Uche is the “surprise standout” of Patriots minicamp.

“The 2020 second-round pick from Michigan played 17 percent of the defensive snaps as a rookie, but looks primed for a significant jump this season,” Mike Reiss wrote. “It was notable to see him paired with top linebackers Dont’a Hightower, Matt Judon, Ja’Whaun Bentley and Kyle Van Noy, and his speed, suddenness and potential as a disruptive pass-rusher were on display in multiple drills.”

Patriots follow great players in minicamp

Patriots linebackers struggled in 2020. The linebacker unit was weak and the team lost too many games. Uche emerged as an excellent player and he will step in for the team. He is better than ever and Belichick brought new players in the fold. Hightower joined the team, giving Belichick an extra weapon. The LB unit is a great strength for Belichick’s team in the upcoming season.

Let’s see what happens in September. The Patriots have so much to work on at the moment. Players are here and they are determined to do better on the field in 2021. Several new players have accomplished more than some veterans on the roster.

Belichick will do some cuts and trimmings in the offseason. He will get rid of the players he doesn’t need and maybe bring someone new. Cam Newton is expected to lead the team and he will work with Jarrett Stidham and rookie quarterback Mac Jones.
