Jarrett Stidham Has 1 Clear Goal With The Patriots

The New England Patriots have four quarterbacks on the roster. Head coach Bill Belichick offered Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer a one-year deal. He selected Mac Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Third-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham is still on the roster and he has one major goal with the Patriots.

The Patriots quarterback room is really crowded at the moment. Tom Brady left the team in 2020 and signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Coach Belichick had to find a solution for the void Brady left behind. Newton struggled in his first year with the Patriots, but the team gave him another chance. Stidham struggled last season, too. Hoyer didn’t even get a chance to show his skills. How will the Patriots handle the upcoming season?

Hoyer will probably be a mentor for Jones and maybe he will step in as a backup quarterback.

Newton suffered a hand injury in OTAs and Jones got a chance to show his potential. He was great, and Stidham was great, too. However, the third-year quarterback struggled in Friday’s session.

Jarrett Stidham sticks to his goal with the Patriots

During Monday’s press conference, Stidham said he plans to become the Patriots starting quarterback despite Belichick’s recent moves. The selection of Jones motivated him to be even stronger and better on the field. Hopefully, Stidham will use the opportunity to compete with other quarterbacks on the roster.

“My goal is to be the quarterback here and to start football games for a really long time in this league,” Stidham said, via Zack Cox of NESN. “The mindset of that has never changed and never will change.”

Stidham played in just eight games for the Patriots since joining the team two years ago. Most of the games happened in end-of-game situations.

Belichick will make the best decision for his team. He said Newton was his quarterback, but we have at least one reason to believe that Jones will take over at some point of the regular season. Things are getting really hot in New England and everyone knows it, including Stidham.
