Lakers Called on to Make ‘Ambitious’ Move for Rival Starter

The 2020-21 NBA season didn’t end well for the Los Angeles Lakers. The team missed the chance to make an impact and they were eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Well, NBA experts believe the Lakers should make a move for a rival starter.

General Manager Rob Pelinka should address several issues in the offseason, and shooting is the biggest concern at the moment. Lakers players were inconsistent from beyond the arc throughout the entire season. The problem got worse in the playoffs.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are the best players on the roster. However, they aren’t excellent 3-point shooters. LA should be wise enough to sign an elite shooter and repair the damage. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report believes that the Boston Celtics have something to offer. Free-agent Evan Fourner may be the best fit for LA. However, signing him would be quite a challenge.

“Boston helps the cause if it wants Schroder in a double sign-and-trade. That’s not likely. The Lakers instead need to hope the Celtics would take one or two of their mid-sized salaries (Harrell, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope) and this year’s No. 22 pick as compensation.

“Is Fournier worth that plus Los Angeles letting at least one of its other main free agents walk? Given how desperately they need three-point shooting and someone else comfortable putting the ball on the floor, um, yes.”

Lakers front office to make a move for talented starter

Fournier isn’t a big name in the NBA. He spent a big chunk of his career with the Orlando Magic. The talented player had a huge chance to play for a strong team when the Celtics traded for him at the NBA trade deadline. Fournier was averaging 19.7 points before the trade. His stat dropped to 13.0 after the trade. He hit big numbers on a team without many stars. Things got complicated in Boston. Will Fournier be productive behind King James and AD?

Well, he made 46.3% of the 3-point attempts in Boston. In other words, he can shoot the lights out of the gym. Maybe the Lakers should swap Kentavious Caldwell-Pope for Fournier in a sign-and-trade. That would be a smart move.
