Lakers Discussed Trading Kyle Kuzma For Spencer Dinwiddie at Trade Deadline

Kyle Kuzma was part of many trade rumors throughout the entire season. Well, the Los Angeles Lakers were serious about trading the talented player. Recent reports confirm that the front office discussed the idea of trading Kuzma for Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie. This would have been a really bold move, but it didn’t happen. Will the Lakers try to trade the young player again?

“Reportedly, the Nets were engaged in talks at the deadline with the [Golden State] Warriors that would have sent the point guard to Golden State for Kelly Oubre and to Los Angeles and the Lakers for Kyle Kuzma,” wrote Net Income of NetsDaily.

This deal would have been a big win for the purple and gold. Kuzma failed to deliver in the 2021 NBA Playoffs. His performance in the regular season was decent, but he struggled to score in the series against the Phoenix Suns.

Kyle Kuzma is still on the trade block

Dinwiddie will enter free agency in the offseason. Had he signed with the Lakers, the franchise could have ended up losing young Kuzma for a rental player in Dinwiddie. Well, it’s also possible that the Nets player would have opted to re-sign with LA if he was already in town.

If this speculation is any indication, LA will continue exploring trades for young Kuzma. His poor performance in the postseason is a really good reason for Rob Pelinka to get rid of the young star. He will probably have to find a home somewhere else in the NBA. Kuzma is a good player but he is inconsistent throughout the entire season. He wasn’t of great help for the team this past season. Yes, Kuzma wanted to be the third player behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but it didn’t happen.

Let’s see how will things turn for the young player. Kuzma can definitely offer more, and this makes us believe that the Lakers will try to get the best of him. Of course, he will have to secure his spot on the team for the upcoming season.
