Lakers GM Rob Pelinka Lays Out Main Goal For Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers made a few mistakes in the regular season and players struggled to stay healthy. General manager Rob Pelinka has one special goal for the offseason.

Lakers players tried to defend their title but their efforts went down the hill. LeBron James carried the entire team on his back, but it didn’t help. Players struggled to stay healthy. LeBron suffered a horrible injury and Anthony Davis missed too much time. The big man returned to help the team but had to leave the game after just five minutes. LA struggled against the Phoenix Suns and gave up in Game 6 of the series.

The No.2 seed defeated LeBron and the team in the first round of the postseason and it was horrible.

Pelinka added Dennis Schroder, Marc Gasol, and Montrezl Harrell in the offseason. He hoped for a strong performance but some players failed to perform. Injuries prevented the Lakers from developing strong chemistry. They entered the regular season as the top seed but slipped to No.7 in LeBron’s absence. LeBron was really bothered with the loss. He didn’t like the fact that his team couldn’t build strong chemistry.

Rob Pelinka has one goal for the offseason

If LeBron stays healthy in 2021-22 and Pelinka brings talented players, the team has a chance to win a title. According to the Lakers general manager, the core should be kept intact.

“I’m convinced that, again, without some of the unforeseen circumstances this year, the challenges that we had to face, that we’d be a championship-caliber team,” he told reporters on Friday night, via ESPN‘s Dave McMenamin. “So the goal is to try to keep that core group together.”

LeBron, Davis, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and Kyle Kuzma are locked in for the upcoming season. They make about $100 million as a group. Nine players may become free agents in the offseason.

“We have an insatiable desire and passion to bring banner No. 18 here. And we’re excited about the work we’re going to commence tomorrow to get that done for our fans and for the organization.”

Marc Gasol and Andre Drummond may leave the team with a huge gap. Montrezl Harrell has a $9.7 million player otpion.
