Mac Jones ‘Superpower’ Revealed in Early Practices

The New England Patriots went after one of the top picks in the 2021 NFL Draft. It looks like head coach Bill Belichick made a really good move. Selecting Mac Jones with the 15th overall was really bold, and the rookie has already shown his superpower in practice.

Belichick said Cam Newton was his starting quarterback for the upcoming season. However, analysts won’t change their minds. They all say that Jones will go under center at one point of the regular season. Well, it’s more than obvious that Jones has all the talent he needs to challenge the 2015 NFL MVP.

Nick Cattles of Greg Bedard’s Patriots Podcast said that Jones has shown his real “superpower.” He believes that every rookie quarterback has a superpower.

So, what’s Jones’ superpower? According to Cattles, it’s his football IQ.

Patriots players are still in OTAs with no pads and tough defenses. They do drills and maybe it’s too early to make bold assessments.

Cattles and Bedart are sleeping on Newton’s superpower. He brings a lot of great things to the table. Patriots coaches respect Newton’s qualities. That’s why they offered him another deal. Coach B gave him the top job.

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels talked to the media on Thursday. He noticed some differences in Newton. Spending a year in the Patriots’ offense means a lot and Newton will get the best of it.

“He’s worked really hard, and he worked hard all year last year. He was certainly at a point when he got here that was a unique situation, having really no experience and exposure to our system prior to training camp starting. I honestly can’t remember another time in my career where we’ve had a player that has done that. Even the rookies that get drafted, they get information prior to the end of the spring. So it was a unique scenario. He worked his butt off last year to do it, and then he came back certainly this year at a much different position. He has a different grasp of the offense, a different understanding of the terminology. And now we’re working on refining the precision, the details, and I always talk to the quarterbacks about trying to master the operation and the things we need them to do.”
