Patriots QB Cam Newton Status For Minicamp Revealed

The New England Patriots are ready for minicamp, but they will probably miss some of the players. The Patriots have four quarterbacks on the roster and one of them suffered a hand injury. Yes, Cam Newton treats his injury and he has made a decision on his role in minicamp. Will Newton take part in upcoming activities?

Jim McBride of The Boston Globe reported that Newton will take full complement of reps at minicamp later this week. This is more than great news for Newton’s fans out there.

Newton hurt his right hand last week. He was in pain and had to leave the practice field. The medical staff treated his injury and Newton missed some of the sessions. Luckily, Newton’s injury wasn’t scary and he is ready to take the next challenge.

The 2015 NFL MVP will enter minicamp as a starting quarterback for the Patriots. Newton signed a one-year deal with the Patriots and Belichick will make him compete with first-round selection Mac Jones. Let’s not forget that third-year quarterback Jarrett Stidham is also here. He has shown some flashes of greatness, but he wasn’t really successful in Friday’s session.

Belichick said Newton will be his quarterback entering the 2021 season. Will he change his mind later in the season? Some analysts believe that Jones will go under center in the second half of the season.

Brian Hoyer signed a contract extension but he will probably be Jones’ mentor and a backup quarterback.

Newton started 15 games in 2020 and went 7-8 in these starts. The veteran had a bout with COVID-19 and didn’t return 100%. The 32-year-old completed 65.8% of his passes for 2,657 yards and eight touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Newton rushed for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns. Yes, he does great damage on the ground but he has to work on his passing game.

Newton was great as starting quarterback but his struggles were more than obvious. The Patriots missed the playoffs in 2020. Well, Newton lacked weapons and he didn’t have much time to prepare for Belichick’s system because the Patriots signed him right before training camp.
