Report: Lakers Expected to Pursue Carmelo Anthony This Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers have been linked to Carmelo Anthony for quite some time. Recent reports confirm that the Lakers may pursue the 10-time All-Star in free agency this offseason.

“NBA Analysis Network spoke to a source that stated that the Lakers are expected to pursue Anthony in free agency,” reported Evan Massey.

Kyle Kuzma may be on the trade block and the Lakers will have to play really smart to keep everything in place. If Kuzma goes out, LA may add Melo to the frontcourt rotation. This seems like a good scenario for the team.

Let’s not forget that LeBron James and Melo are really close. They have been friends for decades. Moreover, these two entered the NBA at the same time. LeBron became the greatest NBA player of all time and Melo struggled throughout the years. He spent time with multiple teams around the NBA. Is LA next on the list?

LA Lakers to sign Carmelo Anthony

Melo had a resurgent 2020-21 season with his team. He played with the Portland Trail Blazers and his performance was really great.

The veteran was a key player to the team’s success. He was averaging 13.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game while shooting 42.1 percent from the field and 40.9 percent from deep. This was the best 3-point shooting percentage of his professional career.

Melo isn’t the player he was in the past. However, he brings a lot of great numbers to the floor. He has career averages of 23.0 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists.

Great Melo may ideally be a part of the second unit, and adding him will help LA win a lot of games. Let’s see what happens later this year.

The Lakers left the first round of the 2020-21 NBA playoffs. The Phoenix Suns had an excellent game and LeBron was unable to lead his team to the NBA Finals again. He struggled with injuries and Anthony Davis missed a lot of games due to injuries. The powerful duo needs an extra pair of hands at the moment. Is Melo the guy to join them?
