Stephon Gilmore is ‘in Town’ With a Potential Contract Resolution in Reach

The New England Patriots will have to make some changes in the offseason and they will have to work on a solution for one of their veterans. Stephon Gilmore wants a better contract, and there may be an option for his situation.

Gilmore is in Foxboro and this has nothing to do with the rehab. He is in a serious contract situation and maybe he will get an extension from the team. The former Defensive Player of the Year has demands.

“Stephon Gilmore is in town but not to get any sort of physical checkup for the team,” Mike Giardi from NFL Network tweeted. “I’m told his quad has not restricted his workouts for some time now.”

Stephon Gilmore is in a similar contract situation as Darius Slay

Mike Reiss from ESPN is an optimist. His recent report on Gilmore is bringing a ray of hope. The veteran cornerback didn’t ask to be traded so we believe he wants to stay with the Patriots.

“Cornerback Stephon Gilmore didn’t report to mandatory minicamp, and while some holdouts can become acrimonious, my sense on Gilmore’s mindset is different. He seems to enjoy being a Patriot, is open to sticking around, and this was his least-expensive-but-most-decisive way of sparking more productive contract talks with the team, so he can feel better about being part of New England’s present and future.”

Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t say a word about Gilmore’s situation. His responses are short, and we can only make guesses at this point. Belichick said he didn’t expect Gilmore to take part in mandatory minicamp.

Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated talked about the potential trade, and mentioned Darius Slay from the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gilmore is 31, and he is an excellent player.

“I’m not sure a guy his age has ever, in 101 years of NFL football, fetched a first-round pick in a trade without being the guy with the ball in his hands on every offensive snap,” Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated wrote. “It just doesn’t happen.”

Detroit got third- and fifth-round selection. He signed a three-year deal worth $50.5 million when he was a year younger than the Patriots cornerback. This was his third contract, and Gilmore is about to get that right now.
