Ex-Patriots Player Announces He’s Running For United States Senate

Former New England Patriots player Jake Bequette is running for United State Senate. Sports and politics do have something in common, right?

The former NFL defensive end played eight games with the Patriots in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. It’s time to win another game and this time Bequette targeted the US Senate.

The 32-year-old confirmed Monday he is running for Senate. Some would agree that he has a really good chance to get Arkansas Sen. John Boozman’s seat.

The former Patriots player hopes for a seat in the Senate

In his announcement, Bequette told the world that he is an Army veteran, former NFL player, and Arkansas Razorback. He was all-in when it comes to service. It’s time to reach a different height. Bequette feels like he has a calling to do more.

Bequette joined the US Army in 2015, right after winning a Super Bowl with the Pats. He is focused on Washington and calls himself a “God-fearing Christian Conservative who is 100 percent pro-life and pro-police.”

“What’s happening in Washington these days is a disgrace,” Bequette said in a video posted to his Twitter account. “Democrats have been taken over by radical socialists, and too many Republicans just go along to get along. Now, more than ever, we have to stand up and fight for what we believe.”

Bequette is a University of Arkansas product. The Patriots selected him in the third round of the 2012 Draft. The team got him with the 90th overall right after the Philadelphia Eagles selected quarterback Nick Foles with the No.88 overall pick. Experts remind us that the New Orleans Saints picked Patriots defensive lineman Akiem Hicks at No. 89.

Well, we are sending our messages of support for the former Patriot. A lot of people would support him in his bid for the Senate seat. Let’s see what happens next. Athletes become politicians following their retirement. We have seen numerous examples of players who tried their chances somewhere else. Most of them end up in the entertainment industry.
