Lakers Have Interest in Acquiring Spurs Star This Offseason

The Los Angeles Lakers missed the playoffs this past season and they will probably re-shape the roster in the offseason. According to recent reports, the Lakers have shown interest in acquiring San Antonio Spurs star DeMar DeRozan.

DeRozan would be an excellent fit for the Lakers. To get the veteran player, the Lakers will have to do a sign-and-trade with the Spurs. Is this even possible? LA needs a third star behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. DeRozan makes a perfect sense at the moment.

The Lakers may be acquiring the Spurs star player

Will DeRozan agree to put on a Lakers uniform?

DeRozan is at the end of his deal with San Antonio. He is in his final year of his contract. He earns a lot of money and LA may not be able to get him. They are spending a lot of money to keep LeBron and AD around. Signing another superstar will be super tricky as the franchise doesn’t have much money. This is the only reason LA has to agree to a sign-and-trade at the moment. This is the only option right now.

DeRozan will turn 32 next month. He may be aging but his numbers are really great. The veteran finished the 2020-21 NBA season with averages over 20 points per game for the eight straight season.

In his 61 games for San Antonio in the regular season, DeRozan was averaging 21.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 4.2 rebounds per night.

If Rob Pelinka goes after DeRozan, he will have to give up on some of his players. We don’t know who the Lakers would give up in the potential trade for the veteran. Kyle Kuzma is the first name that crossed our mind. Young Kuzma has been part of many trade rumors in the offseason.

The Lakers will pull out many moves in the offseason. Pelinka has to strengthen his roster and give LeBron better weapons. LA is recharging in an effort to make the NBA Finals in the upcoming season. They will have to add more players to the roster in the next few months. Some of the players will have to go.
