Matt Damon Sides With Tom Brady Over Bill Belichick in His Last Interview

Matt Damon has finally spoken about the breakup of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. He is Brady’s fan remember? They are also great friends. TB12 left the New England Patriots after 20 years and signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He won a ring in his debut with the Bucs and his former team finished the season with a 7-9 record.

We all know that Damon is a Patriots fan. Here’s a fun fact. He watched every Buccaneers game in 2020. The Cambridge native had at least one great reason to do this. He supported TB12.

“It’s not even a bandwagon. I love Tom,” Damon said on “The Bill Simmons Podcast.” “He’s a once-in-a-lifetime athlete for all of us who were lucky enough to be able to follow. His entire career, I’m riding it all the way to the end.

“I don’t, you know, the Patriots, I don’t know. I’m following Tommy. The fact he did that last year on a torn MCL, just stop it. You know what I mean? It’s just awesome. It’s such a great story.”

Brady’s fans enjoyed the 2020 season. The veteran quarterback got his seventh ring and that’s more than any team has ever won. Impressive, right? He is the GOAT after all.

Belichick struggled to replace his favorite quarterback. Was Brady the real leader of the Patriots dynasty? Here’s what Damon said.

“I was always a believer,” Damon said of TB12. “Everyone does the ‘Was it Belichick or was it Brady?’ Belichick’s an amazing coach, but I never doubted that it wasn’t Brady. He’s on the field playing the game.”

Damon would say TB12 is “relentlessly positive guy” and yes, they still talk to each other. He would love to see Brady win his eighth ring. Need more? He believes Brady has everything he needs to get it.

“They could’ve kept him,” Damon said of Brady leaving the Patriots. “I don’t begrudge that guy. I want him to go win another Super Bowl. It’s just such an awesome story.

“Did you look at the guy’s arm? He looks like a 30-year-old out there…Brady’s making every throw. He still is, and never with the collection of receivers other quarterbacks have.”

Damon is a Patriots fan and believes Newton is a “great dude.” He loves his game. It’s interesting to note that Damon promised that he and Ben Affleck will get behind Mac Jones if he gets the job.
