Patriots Quarterback Injured Before Start of Training Camp

The New England Patriots have four quarterback options on the roster, but one of the players is injured at the moment. The team placed eight players on the Physically Unable to Perform list at the beginning of training camp.

Jarrett Stidham is one of them.

Defensive tackle Byron Cowart, defensive back Stephon Gilmore, linebackers Terez Hall and Brandon King, tight end Dalton Keene, wide receiver Devin Smith, and defensive end Chase Winovich are part of this list, as per NFL transaction wire.

We don’t have much info on Stidham’s injury at the moment. But we do know that this may be a terrible setback for the young player.

The quarterback competition in New England is pretty tense. Cam Newton will enter training camp as the potential starting quarterback. The same happened last year and head coach Bill Belichick made him compete with Stidham and Brian Hoyer. Let’s not forget that rookie Mac Jones is also here. He may give Newton a big headache as most analysts believe that the rookie will be the franchise quarterback in the near future. How near is that?

Last season, Stidham struggled with injuries and inconsistency and this stopped him from getting the lead job.

Newton had an advantage over Hoyer, and he will probably get the best job Stidham had a chance to shine, but he didn’t use it.

Hoyer had a terrible performance on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots defense helped the team win. It was a Week 3 game, and both Newton and Stephon Gilmore missed it after testing positive for coronavirus.

Hoyer was a starter and Stidham jumped in right after the veteran played terrible in the first half of the game.

Stidham stepped in and it looked like he can take the lead. The young quarterback had other chances in the games against the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams.
