Report: Patriots Claim Quarterback Off Waivers From Packers

The New England Patriots have four quarterback options on the roster and they have just added another one from the Green Bay Packers. What does this mean? Head coach Bill Belichick is not wasting his time and he is getting ready for another long season. But, why did he bring another quarterback to New England?

As you may be guessing, a familiar face is rejoining the quarterback room. The team on Wednesday claimed quarterback Jake Dolegala off waivers from the Packers. Ian Rapoport from NFL Media confirmed the information.

Dolegala spent a big chunk of the 2020 NFL season on the Patriots practice unit. He signed a future deal with the team in January. The team released him after getting Mac Jones with the 15th overall. The 6-foot-7 quarterback didn’t have much luck at that point.

Dolegala is back and the quarterback unit looks a bit awkward. Belichick has five QB options at the moment. There are so many rumors about his next move. NFL experts have so many theories at the moment.

Patriots add a quarterback from the Packers to stir things up

This leads us all the way to Jarrett Stidham. Maybe the Patriots will get rid of the player in the next couple of weeks. He offered Cam Newton a one-year deal. Brian Hoyer got his contract too, and he will probably mentor Jones. Stidham has nothing to do with the Patriots right now.

Stidham is on the active/physically unable to perform list with an undisclosed injury. Fans and reporters didn’t see him on the practice field Wednesday.

Jeff Howe from The Athletic reported that the young quarterback “isn’t expected back in the near future.” Stidham was a full participant in mandatory minicamp in June.

Hoyer saw more reps in Stidham’s absence. He was able to complete 8 of 17 passes in 11-on-11 drills. Newton and Jones went 5-for-11 and 8-for-15 in team-full drills. What does that mean? Is Newton a starter? Jones sits at No.2?

The list of questions could go on and on.

Who is the first to go? Who will start games in New England? We have a few ideas on the table right now.
