Report: Patriots Near Deal With Second Rounder

The New England Patriots will soon ink a deal with their second rounder. Just one rookie has yet to sign a deal with the Patriots. It looks like the team will seal the deal in the near future.

Head coach Bill Belichick signed a group of great players in the offseason. He selected a few great players in the 2021 NFL Draft and most of them got their deals with the Patriots. Rookie quarterback Mac Jones signed a four-year deal with the Patriots and he is the most remarkable selection in this year’s draft.

New England inked third-round selection Ronnie Perkins on Tuesday. Second-rounder Christian Barmore will probably sign his deal in the near future.

Mike Reiss from ESPN reported that negotiations are almost done.

“The Patriots and second-round DT Christian Barmore were progressing towards finalizing a contract, which would cap off the team?s 2021 class,” Reiss tweeted Wednesday morning. “Rookies are already at the stadium, getting a head-start on training camp.”

The Patriots to offer a good deal to their second rounder

Belichick selected Barmore with the 38th overall in the draft. The defensive tackle seems like a good option for the team. He is 6 foot 4, 311 pounds and has the potential to play early on in his football career after the Patriots’ front seven was worked in the last season.

Teams seal rookie deals on time. Young players secure their deals at the start of their career. Things take the right turn and almost everyone gets their deals signed.

The Patriots are pretty close to finishing their deals with the rookies.

Belichick trusts his instincts and he did a wonderful job in the last few months. He spent a lot of money to get the right players for his team. This is not a typical Belichick attitude, but he had to make some changes to fix the damage players did in 2020. The Patriots finished the season with a 7-9 record and Belichick is here to change this. Hopefully, his draft selections will be enough to beat opponents in 2021.
