This Stephon Gilmore Retweet Foreshadowed Update On Patriots Contract Battle

Stephon Gilmore is stuck in the middle of nowhere and his Patriots contract situation is making headlines. Of course, the veteran cornerback hasn’t said or done anything to make us think differently. Well, there are a few hints and we can only make guesses at this point.

The former Defensive Player of the Year provided insight into his contract situation with head coach Bill Belichick. Gilmore talked to NFL Insider Josina Anderson on Friday and made a few interesting comments. Here’s an interesting catch. Gilmore shared an interesting tweet right before the convo. This was the perfect hint at what he was thinking at that given moment.

The veteran retweeted a message from Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant late Thursday night.

Stephon Gilmore has plans for his Patriots contract

This is definitely the message Gilmore tried to send during his convo with Anderson. He didn’t take part in organized team activities and mandatory minicamp this spring. One thing stands for sure. Gilmore is looking forward to getting a raise. A good deal is probably the only thing that could put Gilmore back on the field in New England. Gilmore deserves all that money and he won’t play for anything less. It’s interesting to note that he earns less than average cornerbacks. Yes, he is a superstar and he wants to get his money.

Gilmore is a two-time First-Team All-Pro. He will earn $7.735 million in 2021. With this deal, Gilmore ranks 26th among all cornerbacks. This amount is a result of the restructuring of his deal. It gave him more money last season as a reward for the 2019 Defensive Player of the Year nod.

On Thursday, ESPN shared cornerback ratings for the 2021 season. Gilmore ranks fourth on the list. J.C. Jackson ranks 10th. He will probably be the go-to cornerback if the veteran were to move on.

“I just want what I’m worth, however that plays out,” Gilmore told Anderson. “Every player should be paid what they’re worth. That’s just how it is.”

The veteran has always been open about his feelings on Twitter. He told Anderson he isn’t trying to force a trade. These comments support a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. He said that the two sides will work on a deal leading up to Patriots training camp.
