Watch: Bodybuilder Try to Eat and Train Like LeBron James for a Day

A bodybuilder wanted to be LeBron James for a day. Was it easy?

Bodybuilder Zac Perna knows a lot about the “day in the life” challenge. He did Mark Wahlberg’s diet and also tried to do the same things as Eddie Hall and The Rock.

What about the king of basketball?

Keep in mind that LeBron is 6’7’’. Perna is not that big so he adjusted the diet for his body.

“Obviously LeBron James is about 9-foot-6, and I’m not quite that height yet, so his portion sizes are going to be drastically bigger than mine, but I’m just going to make it for my portion size and what I would eat, so it’s a regular sized human being’s meal,” said Perna.

He started the day with a rich breakfast. It’s an egg-white omelette and smoked salmon. Add gluten-free pancakes with berries on top for a final touch.

“The reason why I’m guessing it’s gluten free is because gluten is one of the most gut-irritating proteins,” said Perna.

The bodybuilder ate his omelette and half of the pancakes.

It’s time for a workout!

Perna started with 20 minutes of cardio followed by a strength session. He did everything in 4 sets of 12 reps. Deadlifts come first and bent-over rows are next on the list. This is followed by barbell curls and calisthenics work. Perna did wide-grip press-ups (3×20 reps), chin ups (3×15 reps) and wide-grip pull-ups (3×10 reps). A 15-minute yoga session seems like the perfect ending.

Bodybuilder Perna was serious about his LeBron James challenge

To get ready for the “very serious and important game,” Perna ate a pre-game peanut butter and jelly sandwich. After his four-on-one game against the Mud Bones basketball team, Perna got his post-game plant-based protein. What’s next? The cryotherapy chamber. Temperatures go as loq as -160 Degrees Celsius.

“It’s pretty nuts,” said Perna. “It’s hard to breathe in there a little bit.”

Meal No.2. Perna got salmon and wholegrain pasta and veggies with some homemade tomato sauce and parmesan cheese. It’s time for a recovery massage, and Perna did myotherapy massage.

“We are getting an uncomfortable massage today, but it is all part of the recovery process,” he said.

Did anyone say dinner? Perna had chicken parm, rocket salad, and a glass of wine.

To finish the day, Perna fell asleep while listening to the calming sound of rain on leaves.

“I swear these calories are surprisingly low,” said Perna of his challenge. “He’s massive, and the diet is relatively low, but some teammates did say he eats a lot of s***, like he eats cookies and stuff, so maybe he was saying it on the podcast because his trainer was there.”
