Coach Bill Belichick Gives Revealing Admission On QB Cam Newton

The New England Patriots have yet to confirm their starting quarterback, but head coach Bill Belichick sure made an admission on Cam Newton.

Who will be the Patriots’ starting quarterback in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins? The Patriots will face a strong opponent and they will have to use their best options to win the night. What about the game against Tom Brady’s team? Belichick has to get ready for that.

Everything points to the fact that Newton will take the lead in September. The 2015 NFL MVP is the favorite to get the starting job and he did a decent job in the preseason.

The 2020 season wasn’t really well and Newton had his issues. He had a good start, but got COVID-19 and things changed a lot. He also lacked strong weapons and didn’t know much about Josh McDaniels’ system. It was a long offseason for the Patriots, and Newton enjoyed every bit of it. He didn’t skip practice and joined his team for voluntary OTAs.

If you ask Belichick, he will say that Newton is more than ready to enter the 2021 NFL season with success.

The Patriots head coach gave a hint Monday morning, and this is more than good news for Newton’s fans.

“First of all, offensively, we have a much better balanced team,” Belichick said Monday morning. “We’ve added some players that bring an explosive element to our offense … Cam is way more comfortable…”

Belichick makes another admission on Cam Newton

Newton and Mac Jones compete for the starting job on the field. The QB competition has made a lot of headlines in the past few months. Some say Jones should get a chance to take the lead, while others would stick with the former MVP. Drew Bledsoe goes with Newton.

It’s a simple decision. Players will have to be a lot better than Newton to win the competition.

“The fact that Cam started last year, and he’s here, somebody would have to play better than him,” the Patriots head coach said. “Training camp is all about competition.”

New England will open the 2021 regular season on Sunday, Sept. 12.
