Patriots QB Cam Newton Explains Motive Behind Cryptic ‘Loyalty’ IG Post

Cam Newton got people talking about his role with the New England Patriots, and everyone is so confused about his post on “loyalty.” What was Newton trying to say? Is this somehow related to the quarterback battle in New England? We have so many questions right now.

The New England Patriots have two strong quarterback options on the roster at the moment. First-round pick Mac Jones will challenge Newton for the top gig at some point of the regular season. Some even say that Jones should start games in September. Well, head coach Bill Belichick will have the final word. He trusts Newton enough and brought him back for another season. He also said that Newton was their starting quarterback.

Enter Jones. The rookie had an impressive performance with the Patriots in Game 1 of the preseason. The Patriots won the game and beat the Washington Football Team. If you ask Drew Bledsoe, he will say the Patriots should keep Jones on the sideline for a year.

This leads us to Newton’s most recent post. He wrote something about not being perfect and added that he deserves loyalty.

Cam Newton respects loyalty

It turns out this post had nothing to do with the game.

“Having a close talk with people, that’s just the type of vibe that I’ve been on as a father, as a friend,” Newton said. “It’s deeper than football in most cases with my Instagram, as you know. I use my social platform to really become a human. I don’t really talk about football things. I try to post minimal football things, because at the end of the day, I’m a human being.

“That statement wasn’t about football. It was more so like a human. I’m just a person who’s away from my kids a lot, especially in the (football season), away from my family a lot, away from my friends a lot, away from the people who love me the most a lot. I’m not perfect by that, so that’s what I was kind of meaning by that.

“For somebody to take that interpretation as far as, I don?t know how, but to relate to football, it had zero thing to do with football. I just know that having a relationship with your kids via FaceTime, that’s kind of like the worst thing, but it’s my heart. My heart is intentional, and I want loyalty more so because of my imperfections as a person and as a man.”
