Cam Newton Just ‘Helped’ Mac Jones to Take His Job by Making a Costly Mistake

The New England Patriots have two quarterback options at the moment. Cam Newton and Mac Jones will compete for the starting quarterback position and one mistake made things clearer. There have been so many stories about the Patriots and the ongoing QB battle.

Jones was great in the preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Who will go under center in September?

Head coach Bill Belichick has the final word in this case. Maybe Belichick will move Jones to the top of the depth chart by the first game of 2021.

Newton may make things easier for the head coach. Jones has to take advantage of each and every situation.

Cam Newton to deal with his mistake

Belichick got Jones with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. The clock is ticking and Newton’s future with the Patriots may be hanging in the air.

The 2015 NFL MVP has to work really hard to earn his spot on Belichick’s roster. He is a leader, but Belichick will make him earn the money. He did well in training camp and performed even better in the first two preseason games.

Jones has everything he needs to succeed in the NFL. He is a good fit for Josh McDaniels’ offense. He learned a lot in the last few months and he will use each and every advice he got from his coaches and teammates. Coaches are impressed by his accuracy.

Newton has to focus on the game. He can’t afford any setbacks at this point.

However, he will stay away from the team until Thursday. Wonder why? There’s a misunderstanding on COVID-19 tests conducted away from facilities. The Patriots have released a statement on their veteran signal-caller.

“He received daily Covid tests, which were all negative. Due to a misunderstanding about tests conducted away from NFL facilities, and as required by the NFL-NFLPA protocols, Cam will be subject to the five-day entry cadence process before returning to the facility,” the statement read.

With the veteran unavailable, Jones has a chance to get the starting job. He will see most of the reps with the first-team offense until Newton returns.
