Carmelo Anthony 3-Word Take on Losing Rookie of The Year to LeBron James

Carmelo Anthony didn’t get Rookie of the Year award because of LeBron James. Simple as that. Well, LeBron was a different story. He is the kid from Akron. He was special, and he was a top prospect. LeBron was also on the cover of Sports Illustrated. Other rookies had no chance against LeBron. He was the best of the best. The Cleveland Cavaliers got him with the No.1 pick.

The Cavaliers selected LeBron first overall in 2003, and Melo ended up signing with the Denver Nuggets.

The 2003 NBA draft is packed with future Hall of Famers. LeBron, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and Melo are making history. LeBron is actually one of the very few basketball players to be active at this stage of their NBA career.

“I ain’t never seen no mountains before, I ain’t never seen no snow caps. It was hard, but you just felt the energy going into Denver. They just threw the ball at me — it’s yours. I was 19 when they did that. I ain’t think about no pressure. It was like, ‘this is mine.’ Bron had Cleveland, D-Wade was in Miami, Bosh was in Toronto, everybody had their own situation.

“You held your own team down back then. I jumped out to a great start in Denver. We made the playoffs seven years straight. My first year I made, Bron didn’t make it. It was like, ‘I loved Denver.’”

Melo didn’t get the Rookie of the Year award – LeBron James got it

All four of these had great rookie seasons. However, LeBron and Melo were candidates for the ultimate duel of the Rookie of the Year award.

LeBron managed to snatch the award. Well, some people say Melo was supposed to get the big award since he was averaging 21 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals. LeBron had 20.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 1.6 steals. It’s more than just stacking numbers. Players have to be leaders.

Some fans will also argue that Melo led Denver to a sixth seed playoff spot. He was just a rookie. LeBron and the Cavaliers missed the postseason that year.

In his interview with Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes on the “All The Smoke”, Melo was told that he should have received the ROTY award. He did some crazy things on the floor that year and

“I should have. We could have did Co, I thought we was gonna be Co (Co-rookies of the Year).”
