Carmelo Anthony Gets Brutally Honest About Relationship With Damian Lillard Amid Lakers Move

Carmelo Anthony left the Portland Trail Blazers and he can now talk about his relationship with Damian Lillard. Melo had two long seasons with the Blazers, but left the team to join the Los Angeles Lakers. What happened in the last two seasons?

Did he spill the venom? Of course not. The Blazers were the only team to give Melo a chance to win games.

Blazers players welcomed Melo when no one else wanted him. A lot of people thought that he’d never ever hit NBA basketball courts again. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and Melo is grateful.

“Portland was real solid,” Melo said on a recent episode of the All The Smoke podcast, via Marlow Ferguson Jr. of Blazer’s Edge. “They brought me in and I played right away. And that’s all I ever wanted to do was just hoop, man, I love to hoop. I wanted to be on the court. Then, I’m playing with Dame, I’m playing with CJ, they opened they arms, they opened they city, their organization, so I had to be loyal to those guys. Like, I’m gonna give you what I got.”

Carmelo Anthony had a great relationship with Damian Lillard

Blazers players accepted him right away. It felt like home and some guys went out of their way to make him feel comfortable.

“Dame is a real one because Dame always knew like, ‘Man we don’t care about what nobody else is saying. We know you can play. I know you can play. See you. I talk to you.’ So when you get somebody like that, rocking with you, it makes that situation easier,” Melo added.

The veteran knew that he had to go. LeBron wanted him in LA and he couldn’t let this opportunity slip down his hands. It was time to say goodbye.

“I always was connected to Portland somehow,” he said. “Don’t know why, but I was always connected with Portland. I could’ve been there four years ago, it didn’t work out. I always told myself Dame will always go down as one of my top dogs. Forget basketball. Like as a human being, it don’t get better than that.”

We can really say that Melo and Dame are really like brothers. There are no hard feelings between these two. Melo wanted out, but Dame is not even angry. He still likes his great teammate.
