Carmelo Anthony Has Painfully Honest Answer on Being Given Bench Role

Carmelo Anthony joined the Los Angeles Lakers in the offseason and he is getting a bench role. Probably. Talented Melo is still going after his first ring. He has been around for two decades and has yet to win a championship. The Lakers may be the only team to help Melo get his ring. He will be playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Russell Westbrook is part of the Big 3, too. Dwight Howard joined the Lakers as well, and he is waiting for his championship parade.

Rob Pelinka added great depth to his roster. Melo will probably come off the bench and shock opponents with his scoring game. He has had this role for over two years. The Portland Trail Blazers brought him back in the game, and that’s all they got for the veteran. Well, it’s still better than nothing, right?

Melo embraced this role as he is entering the twilight of his great career.

Carmelo Anthony didn’t like the bench role at first

It wasn’t always easy though. Melo had the main word in his prime and things changed over the years. He had to take smaller roles, mostly coming off of the bench.

“So you are going 16-17 years and you’re the guy on the team and you’re the star and then all of sudden, somebody is like ‘Come off the bench.’ I had to swallow that ego, swallow that pride, but I also had to use that ego and that pride to keep me on edge and keep me motivated. I’ve accepted that. It played out well in Portland. That was my first time doing that and experiencing that at that level. I enjoyed it. It was fun, it was basketball. I was still able to do my thing and play ball and have fun and have the love for the game again.”

Melo will get the best of his time with the Lakers. He is getting a really good chance and the Lakers wanted him around. LeBron wanted Melo by his side. Now was the real time for these two to join forces.
