New Update On Mysterious Jarrett Stidham Back Injury

New England Patriots quarterback Jarrett Stidham is dealing with a back injury and he had to undergo surgery to fix it.

The Patriots brought Jarrett Stidham in an effort to replace Tom Brady at one point. He spent a year on the same roster as TB12. Stidham really learned from the best. However, things didn’t go the way he expected. Head coach Bill Belichick gave him a chance to show off on the practice field. He didn’t use it.

The 25-year-old underwent a back surgery and won’t join his team until late October. This injury came out of nowhere and a lot fans are worried about his future with the team. NFL analysts are worried about the future of the signal caller who failed to replace TB12. Stidham had a chance to challenge Cam Newton for the starting position, but he failed to do so. What happens next?

Stidham is out due to an injury. Cam Newton will start games. Rookie Mac Jones will learn from Brian Hoyer. Belichick also brought Jake Dolegala. What’s next on the list for Stidham?

Greg Bedard from Boston Sports Journal provided an interesting context on Stidham and his situation with the team.

“Stidham’s mysterious injury — there are indications this has been bothering him for a while, dating back to last training camp (there’s optimism for his future once he finally gets 100 percent right on the health front) — is a bit unfortunate because you’d prefer to have a younger third quarterback. But as we’ve already seen, (Brian) Hoyer’s wisdom has a lot of value when it comes to Mac Jones.

Everything points to the fact that Stidham won’t have a future with the Patriots beyond being a backup signal caller. The Auburn quarterback didn’t play his best football when given playing time. Unlike Stidham, Mac Jones uses each and every opportunity to show off. Belichick has to pick the right quarterback for his team and Stidham won’t be in the mix for quite some time. Let’s see who will be starting games with the Patriots in the 2021 NFL season.
