NFL Insider Gives Major Update on Patriots QB Battle After Preseason Game 1

NFL analysts are turned towards the Patriots QB battle. The New England Patriots had both quarterbacks on the field, and this only added fuel to the fire. Who will win the competition in New England?

The league has a lot of interesting quarterback battles between veterans and rookies. Last night, everyone was watching the battle between Cam Newton and Mac Jones.

The 2015 NFL MVP didn’t get much work. He was 4-for-7 for 49 yards before leaving the field for his younger teammates. The first-rounder was accurate and completed 13-of-19 throws for 87 yards. Of course, his sub-5 yards per attempt won’t shock fans, but this was a solid performance for someone who played his first game.

“Cam Newton is the favorite, but he’s got work to do here,” Fowler said on today’s edition of Get Up! “I keep hearing that Bill Belichick trusts Cam Newton, that he’s in position to start Week 1, but he’s got to make some progress here because Mac Jones is coming. He showed accuracy and decision-making all of training camp, and he showed it again last night.”

The Patriots QB battle may be over

Newton really supports Jones and has nothing but words of praise for the rookie. The veteran will probably start games in Week 1. Belichick trusts him. Jeremy Fowler from ESPN believes that Jones is on Newton’s heels.

Belichick’s veteran struggled in 2020 but he had to deal with many obstacles.

Fowler explains to see more from Newton in September. He should be motivated by Jones’ performance.

“They expect Cam Newton to be healthier, to be better than last year. He’s got more weapons at his disposal. But he’s going to have to fend off Jones. And if Jones puts together a couple more performances in the preseason, it’s not all or nothing where Belichick’s going to make a strong decision here in the next week or two — they’re going to let this play out a little bit — but Newton has to show some progress here.”

Let’s see what happens in the next few games. Who will win this contest?
