Patriots Insider Mike Reiss Has Talked About Team’s Practice Today

The New England Patriots had another practice and Cam Newton wasn’t able to attend it. The veteran quarterback didn’t join his teammates for practice due to misunderstanding with COVID-19 tests made outside facilities. This left the door open for rookie Mac Jones. Newton will be out for a few days and head coach Bill Belichick is not really worried.

The Patriots head coach has no problem finishing his practices without Newton. His first-rounder is here, and he will do his best to earn a spot on the field.

Patriots insider Mike Reiss talked about this during Wednesday’s edition of ESPN’s Get Up. He summed up the Patriots practice using three words.

“I can sum it up in three words: Mac. Jones. Show,” he said.

Patriots practice shows everything you need to know

Reiss said that Jones dominated the practice field while getting all of the first-team reps. The first-round pick was on point and he is a perfect fit for the offense run by offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

Jones has a chance to get the best of Newton’s absence. He has embraced a bigger role and his performance was amazing. He was great and completed 68 percent of his passes. Belichick may be confused about the fact that Jones didn’t provide any interceptions and touchdowns.

The Patriots also have Newton and he will probably be starter for the regular season. But, things look really well for the rookie. This brilliance would give Jones a chance to steal Newton’s job.

The Patriots selected Jones in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He was awesome in 2020 at Alabama. Head coach Belichick wanted to use him from the bench, but the plan may change at one point of the regular season.

If the rookie continues practicing like this and dominates in his preseason game, Belichick will give him a chance to lead the team.

Jones deserves this chance. He deserves to lead his own team. Tom Brady got similar chance twenty years ago. Will Jones have the same faith? The only thing we can do at this point is sit and wait. Belichick has a plan. He always has a plan.
