Report: Patriots Confirm Signing Of Brian Khoury Among Two Roster Moves

The New England Patriots made a bunch of roster moves in the offseason. Head coach Bill Belichick got the best tight ends on the market. Team owner Robert Kraft wanted him to select decent rookies from the 2021 NFL Draft. Belichick did all this and he will do much more ahead of the regular season.

In the latest wave of moves, the Patriots released quarterback Jake Dolegala. They also signed long snapper Brian Khoury.

Khoury will join the Patriots as a replacement for Joe Cardona. The long snapper is entering his seventh season with the Patriots.

Unfortunately, the Patriots lost Cardona to an injury. He left Sunday’s practice with an injury. Khoury seems like a good option for Belichick’s team at the moment. The 29-year-old brings a lot of talent to the roster and Belichick will get the best of it.

Patriots to make more roster moves

The Patriots head coach acknowledged the team had made a decision prior to Monday’s training camp practice.

The Baltimore Ravens released Khoury in May. He measured at 6’3’’ and 238 pounds. Khoury played college football at Carnegie Mellon and was defensive end/long snapper for the XFL’s DC Defenders in 2019.

Belichick had five quarterbacks on his roster and Cam Newton was leading the way. Mac Jones, Jarrett Stidham, and Brian Hoyer are next on the list, and Dolegala was the very last option. It was more than obvious that Belichick wouldn’t let him play in 2021.

Stidham had to undergo a surgery to fix his back issue and won’t join his teammates until October. Newton will start games in September and Jones may step in as a replacement at one point of the regular season. Of course, everything can change overnight.

If Newton doesn’t meet expectations in training camp and Jones continues doing wonders on the field, Belichick will opt for his rookie. When it comes to Stidham, the Patriots placed him on the physically unable to perform list.

The Patriots had Dolegala on the practice unit in 2020 and now it’s time to go.

Belichick won’t stop here, and he is expected to make a few more moves in the next few weeks. His Patriots players will greet the Miami Dolphins at Gillette Stadium. New England looks great in training camp. They will challenge the Washington Football Team in the preseason opener.
