Report: Sony Michel New England Tenure is Over

Sony Michel is leaving the New England Patriots. After all the rumors about his potential trade, Michel is finally leaving the organization.

On Wednesday morning, the Patriots traded Michel to the Los Angeles Rams. They will get two draft picks. Adam Schefter from ESPN was among the first to confirm the news of the deal. The Patriots confirmed the trade on social media.

Ian Rapoport from NFL Media reported that the Patriots will get 2022 fifth- and sixth-round picks from Los Angeles in exchange for the talented player. According to Rapoport, John Johnson inked a three-year deal with the Cleveland Browns in March. This deal will give him $33.75 million.

Sony Michel is out of New England

Los Angeles seems to be a good destination for Michel. Many considered him to be on the outside looking-in among Patriots’ running back group. Los Angeles lost feature back Cam Akers due to a torn Achilles and he will miss the entire 2021 NFL season. Current running back Darrell Henderson is also prone to injuries.

Michel had his best season with the Patriots in his rookie campaign in 2018. He rushed for 931 yards and six touchdowns in 13 regular season games and then scored six touchdowns in three playoff games. The most remarkable touchdown happened in Super Bowl LIII. Ironically, Michel is now joining the opposing team.

So, Michel is no longer a Patriot, and the team has Damien Harris, James White, and rookie Rhamondre Stevenson. Harris had an incredible season in 2020 and he is expected to have another amazing year. Stevenson showed great potential in training camp and the Patriots will try to get the best of his skills.

New England has enough running backs in the group and this may actually be a sweet problem for head coach Bill Belichick. His RB unit is pretty packed. But, this is not really a problem. Each of these players has great skills.
