Russell Westbrook Drops Strong Statement in First Laker Comments

Russell Westbrook joined the Los Angeles Lakers with one major goal. He wants to win a ring. The Lakers have so much to offer right now, and Westbrook will try to get the best of his time with the franchise.

The talented player made his very first comments as a Laker. He returned home and playing with the Lakers means so much right now. Westbrook is one of only two players in league history to average a triple-double, but people don’t really list him in the top-1o best players.

In his first press conference as a Laker, Westbrook was asked if he has anything to prove at this point. Here’s what he said:

“I don’t. I’ve been blessed and thankful to be able to be in this league so long and lucky to be able to play and be healthy. When I got drafted to the NBA that was me proving people wrong. … When I was able to go to college that was me proving people wrong. Making it out the hood that was proving people wrong. … The ultimate goal is to use what we have to impact those around you.”

Russell Westbrook joins forces with Lakers superstars

The nine-time All-Star needs a ring in his resume. That’s the only thing he lacks at the moment. Playing with LeBron James and Anthony Davis increases his chances of becoming a champion.

Westbrook is an elite player but some say he is not a good fit for the Lakers. He is a ball-dominant player, and so is LeBron. They have already met at LeBron’s mansion, and Westbrook agreed to give LeBron the final word regarding the offense. He is flexible and this will help him build strong bond with the four-time NBA champion.

“Bron is one of the best players to play this game,” Westbrook said of playing with his new teammate. “He has his ability to do anything on the floor, and that allows me to figure it out. My job is to make his game easier for him as it pertains to ball-handling, it really doesn’t matter, there’s many ways to impact the game without having the ball in your hands.”
