Talen Horton-Tucker Inks Big Deal to Stay With Lakers

Talen Horton-Tucker is back with the Los Angeles Lakers. I guess Rob Pelinka and Frank Vogel liked his performance in 2020-21. The talented Lakers guard survived all the drama. Los Angeles traded Kyle Kuzma, Montrezl Harrell, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Trading THT was never an option for the team.

Adrian Wojnarowski from ESPN reported that the guard has agreed to sign a three-year deal worth $32 million. He is staying with the Lakers and the information was confirmed by Rich Paul and Lucas Newton.

The 20-year-old found his spot on the Lakers roster and the team will keep him in LA for quite some time.

Talen Horton-Tucker earns his spot on the Lakers roster

In the 2020-21 NBA season, THT was averaging a career-high 9.0 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game. The No. 46 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft saw action in 65 games.

Several teams have shown interest in getting the talented player. Lakers fans really like THT and the front office decided to keep him. Horton-Tucker is too valuable for the storied franchise and Pelinka didn’t want to let him go.

The Lakers see something in the young player. He had to do a lot more than the season before. Everyone has noticed his true potential and LA should get the best of him.

THT stayed around in 2019-20 and improved in the offseason and during his game in the G League. He spent part of the 2019-20 on that team and averaged 18.1 points per game, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists.

LA needs his six-foot-frame. It’s the perfect size for a shooting guard. But Horton-Tucker doesn’t play as a prototypical shooting guard as he can go inside the basket. The young Laker can also make some good moves once inside the paint.

Where will Vogel place him in the new lineup? Will he start games? Will he come off the Lakers bench? The whole thing depends on Horton-Tucker’s improvement in the offseason. Pelinka will make a few more roster moves and these will affect his role with the team. One thing stands for sure. LA didn’t give up on Horton-Tucker for a reason.
