New England Patriots Have Officially Switched Mac Jones Number

The New England Patriots made a few changes regarding their jersey numbers. Quarterback Mac Jones has a different jersey number too. NFL quarterbacks wear numbers 1-19, and he had No.50 in training camp. In other words, he had to switch numbers.

Jones will soon have his preseason debut for the Patriots. Head coach Bill Belichick decided to put both him and Cam Newton on the field in the preseason opener against the Washington Football Team. It was a big decision, but Belichick really wanted to see his rookie in action. He also wants to see more from Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP didn’t take the team to the playoffs in 2020. However, he will have a chance to do something great this time.

Adam Schefter from ESPN confirmed that Jones will wear No.10 in Thursday’s game against the Washington Football Team.

Mac Jones goes back to his former jersey number

Jones wore No.10 during his time with the Crimson Tide. I guess fans will be really excited to see him wear his former jersey number. Jones wore this number when he led Alabama to great success in 2020.

The Patriots confirmed the rest of the rookies’ numbers in a tweet early Thursday afternoon.

Jones got his number and he is really focused on his debut. NFL experts have high expectations from him. If Jones plays well on Thursday, he will get a chance to take the starting position sooner than expected. Belichick really likes his rookie and everything he brings to the field.

Here’s what Reiss wrote on the Patriots’ game plan against Washington.

“New England Patriots quarterbacks Cam Newton and Mac Jones are both expected to play in Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Washington Football Team at Gillette Stadium, according to a source. How long they play will be determined by head coach Bill Belichick, who traditionally keeps his intentions tight-lipped, in part to keep players on edge. Belichick has previously said that Newton is the team’s starting quarterback, so Newton would be expected to take initial snaps.”
