Wayne Ellington Reveals What Motivated Him to Sign With the Lakers

Wayne Ellington joined the Los Angeles Lakers with one major goal. He is more than happy to re-sign with the team. The veteran spent the past few seasons with other teams.

So, what made him come back to Los Angeles?

“Well, I never really wanted to leave,” Ellington said. “So to be back now, under these circumstances and in this situation, I couldn’t be happier. It couldn’t be more of a blessing for me and my family, so when they called and I spoke to Rob (Pelinka), I spoke to coach (Frank Vogel), it was an easy decision.”

Ellington had his first stint with the Lakers in the 2014-15 NBA season. He had a good season with the team, averaging 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.

Players change a lot and the 33-year-old noticed some of these changes. In his recent press conference, Ellington said he has grown a lot since 2015.

“I’ve learned a lot since then,” Ellington added. “I feel like at that point in my career, I was still a young man in this league trying to find his way. Now, I’ve been through a lot of different situations, a lot of different experiences. And to be now a part of this team, when you look back at that team, it’s just all come full circle.”

Ellington is a former first-rounder. He has made a few stops in the NBA. Yes, the talented player had nine stops in the NBA. It was a long journey but he has yet to win a championship. Ellington is about to change this and this may be the biggest reason he had to join the team in 2021-22.

In his career, Ellington is averaging 8.1 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. He is a 41.0 percent shooter from the field and 38.2 percent shooter rom beyond the arc.

The Lakers will try to get the best of Ellington’s shooting abilities. How will Frank Vogel fit him into the packed roster? We will have to wait until the regular season to get the answer to this question.
