Asante Samuel Clarifies What He Said About Coach Bill Belichick

Some fans won’t really like the comments Asante Samuel made regarding legendary Bill Belichick. The New England Patriots head coach is the most successful coach in league history. He led the Patriots to nine Super Bowl appearances and six wins. So, why is Samuel bothered with this?

It has something to do with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady. Samuel praised Brady’s success with the Bucs. The greatest quarterback of all time was able to win a Super Bowl in his very first season with the team. Yes, this is really impressive and it made Samuel think that there’s nothing sensational about the Patriots head coach.

Asante Samuel is not too impressed by Bill Belichick

He made the first comments earlier this week and fans went crazy. As if this wasn’t enough, Samuel confirmed his statement during Wednesday’s appearance on the First Take.

According to Samuel, Belichick is just like any other coach.

“In my head, being that I’ve been part of the situation, I played for the Patriots, I was there young with Tom and everything, in my head this is a competition between Tom Brady and Belichick,” Samuel said. “Tom Brady has already showed that he can win wherever he goes — through adversity, through a pandemic, getting kicked off fields, barely even having any practice — I didn’t expect him to win the Super Bowl, and he won the Super Bowl. So now, what I’m saying is anybody can coach Tom and win a Super Bowl, so now, in my eyes, in my competitive head, in order to be great, in my opinion, you have to show that you can do that without that person.

“He hasn’t showed that he is a great coach to me because he had the greatest player of all time.”

Ouch! This goes against everything Belichick has accomplished in his lengthy career. He built a dynasty in New England and his success has been a synonym for greatness. The brilliant coach made a daring move this offseason as he gave the keys of his offense to a first-round rookie. Will Mac Jones help Belichick in 2021? Will he beat TB12 in Week 4? Samuel won’t miss this game for anything in the world.
