Ex-Lakers Trainer Shares Humorous Story About Kobe Bryant

Longtime Lakers trainer Gary Vitti knows his players really well. He spent a lot of time in the Los Angeles Lakers locker room. The franchise used his service for 32 years. Vitti will always tell this humorous story of Kobe Bryant and his dedication.

Vitti talked about this in his conversation with Brandon Scoop B Robinson. It was a big game for the purple and gold. It was halftime and Lakers players were looking at their phones. What was Kobe doing? He was studying tape.

Yes, you read it right. The Black Mamba was in the training room with his laptop on. He studied cuts in the first half and was trying to find a solution and make some changes in the second half of the night. Hilarious, right?

Another anecdote about Kobe Bryant

Kobe’s work ethic and determination helped him win a lot of games. He won five rings with the Los Angeles Lakers and beat his opponents pretty much most of the time. Once he even did his free throws with a torn left Achilles tendon. He fell to the ground in pain and grabbed his calf. Believe it or not, Kobe wanted to pull down his own tendon so he could continue playing. He just wanted to “tape it up” and finish his game. Of course, things don’t go that way.

The story didn’t end here. Kobe returned to the game and had his two free throws. This was really incredible and inspiring. About 20,000 people honored Kobe with a standing ovation at Staples Center. He limped back to the locker room without any assistance. The man didn’t even need a wheelchair. This was somehow related to Paul Pierce who left the court in a wheelchair after suffering a knee injury. It happened in Game 1 of the 2008 NBA Finals.

Kobe didn’t need assistance, but he was definitely throwing bottles in the locker room. He was pretty angry. Everything stopped when Vanessa and the girls showed up in the locker room. As Vitti said, Kobe is a different person on and off the court.
