Former Patriots Star, 3-Time Super Bowl Champion Has Died

The New England Patriots lost a legend and the family of David Patten confirmed his death. It’s a terrible loss for everyone and fans will always remember the great player. The former Patriot helped the team win three Super Bowls. A loyal friend and successful football player, the Patriots star enters history as a real legend and the fact that he died makes everyone sad.

The information about his death was confirmed by several sources, and Richard Seymour was among the first to react on Twitter.

The former Patriot was riding a motorcycle Thursday and got involved in a terrible collision in the northeast part of Richland County on Clemson Road. Patten went to the opposing lane and hit a sedan. The coroner’s office confirmed Patten’s death Friday morning. They are still investigating the death and the causes of the collision.

The Patriots star died, but his legacy will continue living

Coming from Western California, Patten went undrafted in the 1996 NFL Draft. He joined the New York Giants and also spent part of the 2020 season with the Cleveland Browns. The New England Patriots got him in 2001 and it was one of the best decisions he has ever made.

Former Patriots quarterback Tom Brady built great chemistry with Patten. The latter became Brady’s top target and it’s interesting to note that Brady was pretty young back then. He had just joined the NFL and the Patriots really benefited from their chemistry.

NFL analysts will always remember Patten’s first postseason TD pass in Super Bowl XXXVI. New England gained a 14-3 lead and it was a great performance against the St. Louis Rams. Patten was really excited about this pass and he was only thinking about holding on when he hits the ground. It was like a dream, and New England fans respect his greatness.

In his NFL career, Patten caught 324 passes for 4,175 yards and 24 touchdowns.
