Frank Vogel Reveals Anthony Davis, Rajon Rondo Roles For Lakers This Season

The Los Angeles Lakers have a bunch of veterans on the roster. They traded for Russell Westbrook right after the NBA Finals. Three players had to leave the Lakers and this was the boldest move in the offseason. LeBron James and Anthony Davis will be leading the way for other veterans. How about those who have similar role with these two? How will head coach Frank Vogel handle Davis and Rajon Rondo and their roles? Rondo joined the team again and this brought joy to a lot of fans.

Remember when Davis said he preferred playing with Rondo? He definitely didn’t like Montrezl Harrell.

Vogel talked about Davis’ role and his change of roles during Spectrum’s LakeShow podcast.

“There really is a vast array and no decisions have been made,” Vogel said. “People ask me all the time: Are we gonna start AD at the 5 or are we gonna play with two bigs, like we did two years ago — what’s it gonna look like? The honest answer is we don’t know yet. We’re gonna watch these guys play together in camp and measure the pros and cons of certain lineups.”

Davis and Rondo are happy with their roles with the Lakers

Bringing Rondo back was a big and exciting move for the purple and gold.

“I think Rondo coming back can be a real positive voice, for a guy that’s not gonna play as much but can really impact our team with his leadership,” Vogel said.

How does Rondo feel about his former team? He is looking forward to the new season with the Lakers. Rondo has so many great skills and his leadership will be an excellent support for Lakers players who need a strong leader.

“They have talked to me about roles with this team, and what they look forward to me bringing to the team this year, versus the past couple of seasons.” Rondo said on Mason & Ireland. “Just being ready when my number is called. Obviously, we have a lot of depth at the point guard position. Understanding that I’m not going to be playing as much as I would like, or possibly want to, but at the same time being a mentor for young guys… just doing what I do best.”
