Insider Reveals Patriots’ Surprising Cam Newton Trade Decision Before Release

Cam Newton is parting ways with the New England Patriots, but Bill Belichick didn’t really trade him. The team is off to a fresh beginning and they have made a decision on their starting quarterback. According to ProFootballTalk, the Patriots never considered trading Jones.

Belichick had a few good reasons to make the decision he made a couple of days ago.

The NFL world followed every move the Patriots made. Newton and Jones made the hottest headlines this summer. They showed up for practice during organized team activities this spring. Although Newton had spent time with the team, he decided to take part in OTAs. Did he have anything to prove? Guess not… He took the Carolina Panthers to the big game in 2015 and earned the MVP honors. Belichick brought him to New England when no one else wanted him. He trusted the veteran quarterback but their love is over.

Cam Newton wasn’t subjected to a trade

Analysts are not really surprised. Former Patriots player aren’t surprised either. Julian Edelman watched the unfolding quarterback battle in New England. He knows a lot about the Patriot Way and this move was probably the best scenario for the team in 2021. Belichick makes the best decisions in the preseason and this is the final result of the offseason battle.

The Patriots will enter the new season with a rookie at center. Jones earned the trust of the coaching staff. Patriots players like him, too. Newton’s departure opened a lot of questions though.

Will Jones be able to challenge Tom Brady in Week 4? This will be the most anticipated game of the season. There’s another major problem at the moment. Who is the backup?

Jarrett Stidham won’t join the team in the near future as he is recovering from a surgery. Jake Dolegala was cut and Newton is out too. Brian Hoyer is the second and last option at quarterback at the moment. Jones’ mentor will actually be his backup.

Hilarious situation!

I guess Newton will get a similar role with his next team. He has the attention of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans. Getting a starting job at this point is not even possible. NFL teams have created their plans for the regular season and coaches won’t really switch signal-callers days before Week 1.
