Julian Edelman Shares His Initial Reaction To Patriots’ Quarterback Decision

The New England Patriots got rid of Cam Newton. The 2015 NFL MVP had to part ways with the organization after spending a year on their roster. Head coach Bill Belichick selected Mac Jones with the 15th overall, and I guess the Patriots decided to move on with the rookie. It was a tight battle between both quarterbacks and Belichick had to make a decision. Of course, Patriots players would say there wasn’t really a battle. Both Newton and Jones tried to play their best football in training camp. Former Patriots wideout Julian Edelman had an interesting reaction to the quarterback decision.

“Nothing surprises me with Bill. Just look at the history,” Edelman said via NBC Sports. “Logan Mankins was let go. Lawyer Milloy, [Richard] Seymour.”

So, what led Belichick to this decision?

There’s a catch. Newton was absent and some say this absence was somehow related to the final decision Belichick made.

Current and former Patriots players have shared their thoughts on the decision and fans would definitely agree with him. Edelman made a point. Will you agree with him?

Truth is, the wideout knows Belichick really well, and he knows that the head coach would do whatever it takes to take his team to the playoffs. Was he surprised?

Julian Edelman is not surprised by the quarterback decision

Patriots players watched Jones do his wonder on the field. The “kid” is really talented. Even Newton admitted that the Patriots had a good reason to pick him, remember?

“I think the kid came out and did very well. You could see in his eyes, see in his reads, that he felt very comfortable in the pocket.  He was looking at the right areas. He ran the no-huddle well.”

How will experts interpret this decision? Will they agree with it? There are several potential scenarios and former players really wanted to see Jones at center in 2021. Drew Bledsoe wanted to see Newton once again, but Belichick made a different choice this time.

“I don’t think he beat [Newton] out, but the ceiling is so high and after spending the 15th overall pick on him, they’re going to go with him. It didn’t surprise me.”
