Lakers Rookie Reveals He Has A 2-Word Nickname

The Los Angeles Lakers have a talented rookie on the roster this season. Well, this Lakers rookie has an incredible nickname. Can you make any guesses?

Austin Reaves has yet to play a game with the Lakers. He had this Lakers Media Day Tuesday and used the opportunity to talk about several topics, including his nickname in college.

Hillbilly Kobe. Hilarious, right?

So, what made people use this nickname? Reaves got this growing up on the farm “in the middle of nowhere” in Arkansas.

“I was like ‘What are you even talking about?’ He was like ‘HBK.’ I was like ‘What?’ He was like ‘Hillbilly Kobe,’” said Reaves. “One of my teammates heard it and it just stuck. For three years, that’s what they said around Oklahoma, and then I guess people caught wind of it elsewhere.”

The Lakers rookie to make headlines with his nickname

Of course, Reaves grew up idolizing Kobe. He is one of the greatest fans Kobe had during his time on the court. Here’s a fun fact… Reaves said that his fandom for Kobe came from his cool grandma. We have at least one good reason to believe that his grandmother is really proud of him. Her grandson is wearing a Lakers uniform.

“She’s just happy and proud of me. She was a diehard Kobe fan. Just being in this situation is surreal to her. She’s more than proud for me, and really just wants me to be happy and succeed.”

Reaves is a fulltime member of the purple and gold army. Fans really hope to see the best of him on the floor. He is an incredible player and we will have a lot of fun watching him help the team win. The Lakers have a lot of winners on the roster at the moment.

Rookies and veterans will join forces to win games in the upcoming season. LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and the rest of the guys will do their best to lead the team to the NBA Finals. These guys are winners, remember? Let’s see how will things roll in a couple of months.
