Mac Jones Shares The Reason He Winked At Dolphins Linebacker

The New England Patriots lost the season opener to the Miami Dolphins. It was a good game and players on both teams tried to win. Not enough. It wasn’t enough. That’s what Bill Belichick said in the postgame press conference. The Patriots decided to trust a rookie and yes, the first-rounder was one of the very few successful players in Week 1 of the regular season. But Mac Jones winked at the Dolphins linebacker… Why?

This was a very interesting moment of the game. Cameras caught Jones winking at Miami Dolphins linebacker Elandon Roberts. This was more than enough to trigger an avalanche of reactions. So, the Patriots rookie decided to explain the whole situation. According to him, it was all fun and games… This was nothing but a fun moment on the field and I guess fans will always remember it.

“Yeah, I mean, it was just kind of fun and games,” Jones said, via NESN. “It was just in the middle of a play. They actually called out our play. So, I was like, ‘Ah, nice catch.’ … Just fun and games.”

Mac Jones winked to warn his opponents… in a good way

In the 16-17 loss to Miami, Jones had an excellent debut with the Patriots. Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels had nothing but words of praise for the Alabama quarterback. Even coach Belichick said that Jones worked really hard to get here. The 22-year-old tried hard, but the Patriots had to try harder as a group. Let’s not forget that Damien Harris’ fumble shut down every chance for the Patriots to win. Patriots coaches believe that each and every player will improve for the upcoming game against the New York Jets.

Former Patriots wideout Julian Edelman watched the game and he was really impressed with Jones’ performance. He said that the rookie did much better than any other rookie in the class and his completion percentage was out of this world. Belichick did a good job in the 2021 NFL Draft. Getting Jones to New England was a big move for the organization. It’s time to show his best skills!
