Patriots Running Back Gives Blunt Message To QB Mac Jones

One New England Patriots running back has given a pretty blunt message to rookie QB Mac Jones. The Patriots are coming off a 25 to 6 victory over a poor Jets team on Sunday. Most experts going into week 2 figured that it would come out as a Patriots’ win. But the Patriots offense, led by rookie QB Mac Jones looked pretty good in the process. One running back for the Patriots had a clear message for the rookie, though.

The Patriots in their run game against the Jets, too. New England running back Damien Harris had a rushing touchdown and 62 total yards.

He had one exceptional run against the Jets in which he got some help from Mac Jones.

Harris definitely liked the help during the play. But he wanted to make it clear how he felt about it moving forward.

“Apparently, I got some help from Mac Jones, too,” Harris said to reporters after the game. “… I appreciate it. But I hope he never does it again. We need him.”

Jones had a response for Harris.

“I think just doing my job,” the QB said. “Obviously sometimes it’s not running down the field on that play, but just to see Damien trying and the offensive line running down there, I felt like I could help.”

“Everybody was down there pushing, and my job is to make sure nothing bad happens and just be by the ball, and maybe I should just stay back,” Jones said while laughing about the experience. “But at the end of the day, just trying get the touchdown.”

“My job was to get the guy on the line of scrimmage,” Jones said. “That’s what I was supposed to do. And KB did a good job getting around the edge.”

Belichick also had some things to say about it.

“Wilson made a play (after throwing an) interception. So, those are both really competitive kids,” Belichick said. “Like Mac’s competitiveness, and he brings a lot there.”
